Sami Chez Nous

Nous, les groupes communautaires et les résidents de Parc-Extension, ainsi que les autres sympatisantes et sympatisants sous-signé(e)s, demandons une régularisation immédiate du dossier d'immigration de Sami Sheikh.

Sami a grandi à Parc-Extension et y a passé toute sa vie adulte. Il a fait son secondaire à la Polyvalente Lucien-Pagé, et son CÉGEP à Vanier. Maintenant âgé de 24 ans, il travaille en informatique et est très apprécié par ses employeurs et collègues ; il a eu deux promotions au cours de l’année dernière. Il a été accepté par trois universités (une avec bourse) pour des programmes d'informatique commençant en septembre 2013, mais Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada l'ont informé en octobre qu'ils l’expulseraient vers le Pakistan sous peu en raison d’une erreur commise par ses parents dans leurs déclarations il y a douze ans, lors de leur arrivée au pays.

Nous ne pouvons accepter que ce jeune homme, qui a sa vie, son travail et ses amis ici, qui est parfaitement bilingue, qui n'a rien fait de mal et qui s'est parfaitement intégré à  la société canadienne et québécoise, soit expulsé vers un pays à risques, où il n'a jamais vécu, qu'il ne connaît pas et où il ne connaît personne.

Nous en appelons à la Cour Fédérale, à l’ASFC et au ministre de la Sécurité publique, Vic Toews, ainsi qu'au ministère de l'Immigration et à son ministre, monsieur Jason Kenney, qu'ils annulent son ordre d'expulsion et qu'ils lui permettent de rester ici, dans son quartier, dans sa province et dans son pays.

We, the undersigned residents and community groups of Parc-Extension, as well as people of conscience the world over, demand the immediate regularization of Sami Sheikh’s immigration status.

Sami grew up in Parc-Extension and has spent his entire adult life here. He attended Lucien-Pagé high school, and went on to get a CÉGEP degree from Vanier College. Now 24 years old, Sami works as an IT specialist and is an integral and highly-regarded member of his team. He has received two promotions in the last year alone. He has been accepted to IT programs at three universities (one with a scholarship) beginning in September 2013, but Citizenship and Immigration Canada informed him in October that they would deporte him imminently to Pakistan, as a result of an error his parents had made in their own declaration made over twelve years ago when they first arrived in Canada.

We refuse to accept that this young man whose life, work, and friends are here, who is perfectly bilingual, who has never done anything wrong, and who is seamlessly and completely a part of both Quebecois and Canadian society, be deported to a country in which he has never lived, knows no one, does not read or write the language, and in which his safety is seriously at risk.

We call on the Federal Court, the CBSA and the Minister of Public Security Vic Toews, as well as the Ministry of Immigration and its Minister Jason Kenney, to cancel the order for Sami's deportation and that they allow him to stay here, in his community, in his province and in his country.
